What are tooth-colored fillings made of?

Most tooth colored fillings are made of composite resins or porcelain. A composite resin is formed from silica filler particles that are encased in and bound together by a hard matrix material called BIS-GMA. The composite resin filling is widely used because it is durable, versatile and bonds firmly with the teeth.

Composite resins are fracture-resistant and can withstand chewing pressure. Tooth colored fillings look great on your teeth. They are safe, reliable and long-lasting.

How are tooth-colored fillings placed?

Tooth colored filling procedure involves chemically bonding the fillings to the teeth. In most cases, numbing (anesthetizing) of the area being restored is not required except when the tooth decay has progressed beneath the enamel into the underlying dentin layer.
